Posts are where thought leaders and members share articles, information and views that are relevant to the SMME landscape. Because the site gets indexed by Google and other search engines and pushes content to Facebook and Twitter, your posts get wide exposure.

How do I post an Article? Under the Posts tab, click 'Add'. Insert your headline and the content of your post in the space provided. Note the difference between clicking the "Publish Post" button on the bottom right of the post versus the "Save Draft" button on the bottom left, if you want to hold on to a post to review later before publishing it.

Remember that only the headline of your post appears on the home page so ensure that your headline is descriptive and punchy to attract attention to it.

How long should my Post be?  Posts should be between 200 and 350 words. You will be surprised how accustomed you get to saying things succinctly. Longer is OK, but generally your audience's attention will start to drift after about 250 words or so. With shorter articles it is easier for you to post more often.

When and where will my Post appear?  The headline of your post will instantly appear on the home page. Members can open and read your post by clicking on the headline of your post.

Can I queue a post for later publication?  Yes, there is an option below the post, before you publish it, to publish it now or at a future date. When you select a future date and press Publish Post, you will get a message saying that it has been saved to 'drafts'. This is correct and you can access unpublished posts by clicking on 'Edit Posts', top left of the page, next to 'My Posts' and 'All Posts'

How will I know if people comment on my post?  If anyone comments on your post, you'll get a notification in your Inbox. You can also see any comments on your post on the post itself.

Can I post anything I want here? As long as your news is real news that’s relevant to small business, and it’s informative, you’re welcome to post what you choose to post here. Keep in mind that the community will rapidly lose interest in this space if members use to to publish hard-sell advertising. [Use the MarketPlace to push your products, services and offers.]

Also, members will rank your articles up or down depending on it's value. Our statistics show that if you want your articles to get read and followed, use the space to publish news that the community will find useful and interesting. [See Follow below.]

Can my Posts be followed? Yes. The community can choose to specifically follow anyone who posts news to the site. If you’re followed, your followers will get alerted to articles posted by you when you post. So, if you want to get followed, develop a reputation for informative and insightful posts and you’ll build an audience fast.

Can my Posts be posted on Twitter and Facebook? Yes. Before clicking "Add Post", you have the option of sharing it on the MyGenius Twitter or Facebook profile. We suggest you copy and paste the headline of your post into the box provided as this will be the headline that appears on Twitter or Facebook.

Do Posts that get read more rank higher on the site? Yes. The more people read your article the higher it will rank in the most popular section of the site. [That's why it's important to make sure your news is informative, interesting and valuable.] News can be filtered by words or the most popular news and latest news to help the community to get to the content they want.
